Gogo Grandmothers www.gogograndmothers.com | There are 18 million orphans across sub-Saharan Africa whose 20- to 40-year-old parents have died of HIV/AIDS. Caring for these children are their Gogos (grandmothers). More than 80% are in poor, rural villages. In their old age, these Gogos expected to be cared for by their now dead children. Instead, they have two or three, and often more, orphaned children to feed, clothe, educate and love. Gogo Grandmothers provides for the orphans of HIV/AIDS by assisting the grandmothers who care for them.
Palm Vista is partnering with Gogo Grandmothers in supporting Gogos in the African village of Luzi. Members of the Palm Vista Gogo group gather monthly to pray and carry out fundraising projects that provide what the poor Gogos in Africa need to raise their orphaned grandchildren. In Luzi, the Gogos who receive assistance gather monthly to hear God’s word, receive encouragement, pray, sing and dance and learn better hygiene, nutrition and childcare practices.
